For week 3, I was delightfully at the beach. This post will contain things accomplished in week 2 and reflections from week 3. Week 2… More bags were taken to the Goodwill and when we left for the beach at the end of week 2, the house was not only clean (a usual habit prior […]
5 years ago when we moved back from France, we moved into a home with 17 bins and the clothes on our backs. We walked into a home. No, not a house, a home… Friends and family had furnished and provided for almost every single thing we needed, and more. We began to unpack the […]
The other night I tucked my little, red headed, 4 yr old into his bed. We sang the songs, prayed the prayers and finished little chats about things running through his mind at the end of his busy day. Every day is busy for him. His little body barely stops moving, his mind seems to […]
Hey Jude, Don’t make it bad. Take a sad song and make it better. (Remember when a group of 5 women sang this to you on new years eve to help you sleep?) No seriously my little love, this is what your life has been since you were born. At two weeks we took you […]
What would you do with $1,000? or 1,000 hours? There are so so many good things to do! I’ve been thinking about this since I watched this by Francis Chan. I never ever hear guilt in his exhortation, I hear a mindfulness of living in eternity with a King. I hear Life. Are we living […]
Dear Critics, This letter has been years in the making. It is finally time to give some perspective to the accusations, criticisms, ill feelings and unkind words that have been spoken over the years. To tell you the truth, they have at times devastated me, and sometimes have left me all but undone. I’ve spent […]
Three weeks ago I injured myself while wrestling a possum in the back 40. What was I to do? I had to protect my kids and livestock… I came out with a torn rotator cuff, but hey, we had a tasty possum stew with mashed potatoes for dinner. My son took the pelt and made […]
Ÿesterday a friend shared this link. The intent of this series of pictures is to illustrate that we are all doing the best we can, we are not in competition with eachother and that other families can make different choices and that can still be ok. But, that is not what rose up in me. […]
Had a great time working with the kids. We finally grouted the whole floor in basement.
Many of you already know that I am not exactly a dog person. I’ve always preferred cats who are much more independent and I like their saucy little attitudes. The perfect combination of ‘pet me.-Now go away.’. But I have been converted to belief in dogs as useful tools on my micro-mini-mini-super-tiny wanna be farm. […]
‘Round here this is what’s going on…. Neil is jack hammering the downstairs bathroom. This is Dave he’s taking care of the ceiling in the ‘asbestos room’. These are the chicks, they are working hard to hatch. Ana and Elijah are cleaning out and detailing the car. Uhhhh, happily?? I was supposed to java gel […]
Neil put up my greenhouse!!! I went inside today, it is waaaaarm and raining inside! Yay!! I also built another hugelkulture style bed before naps. It’s hard to be indoors on days like this, but I need to try to get some reading done, so off I go.
Today was productive! I love sat work days, and funny thing, so do the kids.. Things that got done around here. Started the day with pancakes with two girly helpers. Dresser for my room was put together by Neil ( will stain soon! Having Ikea furniture in my house makes me feel at home :)) […]
When I think about my life and the in’s and out’s I get excited. What’s kinda funny about that is that after many years of adventures in California, Alaska and France with travel to the strange and exotic… I am living in a normal house, in a normal American neighborhood in a very regular sort […]
Recently I was in the market for quail eggs. My 9 yr old son expressed a desire to have his own project raising a smaller bird than a chicken. I was happy to help him with this project and consider it one of the benefits of the type of schooling that we do… we have time […]
kind·ness /ˈkīn(d)nis/ Noun The quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate. A kind act. Synonyms kindliness – goodness – favor – favour – affability I have been thinking a lot about kindness lately and have decided to begin a little series to help flesh out my thoughts. Now would be great time to subscribe if […]
We have been busy around here… Here are a few of our latest happenings… Salt dough ornaments… inspired by Make it Give It (yeah, they are not as cute as hers, but I am using what I have and I don’t have all the crafty stuff she has… FYI her dough was VERY soft, so beware […]
why am i even posting this? well, there is something about accountability when you maybe don’t want to do something, but have already put it out there. so, here is what i am working on. 1 thing a day to organize to better steward my space and possessions. today i did two things… processed the […]
So this would be Juicing Day 3 except that I stopped! By the way my stomach is still sore like I have mild cramps. Not sure why. I ate a small piece of toast and a slice of apple for breakfast, sweet potatoes and roast chicken for lunch, a piece of pie at 4:30, and […]
24 hours of juice… headache, swollen lymph nodes. not particularly hungry, but wanting solid food. (ended up being invited to eat chili… and what do you do? well, what i did? chili and 3 jalapenos, if juice won’t cure me those will!) another 24 hours of juice… headache better, house guests for next two days. […]
We need to put in a towel rack, handtowel holder, and toilet paper holder. Also we are going to put an inset medicine cabinet in where there is currently a big hole in the wall.
juice fasting is something that i have wanted to do over the past several years. being pregnant or nursing isn’t really the time, but the baby is weaned and so off we go. wanting to do something is really much easier than actually doing it. like how i want to be a runner, but i’m […]
i just put my 7 yr old in charge of kitchen cleanup. not just in charge, but administrating 4 older boys. your probably thinking… why in the world would she do such a thing? what sort of parent is she anyway??! my daughter is a natural born leader who has struggled to grow out of […]
So Mom was gone the other day and it was Daddy time to do lunch. I say, hmmm, well I guess I’ll boil some pasta and then throw in a can of tuna and see what I can come up with. Ana gets curious, ‘hey dad what are you making?’. After I tell her, she […]
