Ploughcroft Tea Room birthday present

Today I went to the Ploughcroft Tea Room with the two girls. This was Ana’s gift from me for her birthday. No ‘thing’ accompanied this gift, just time and treats at the fancy shmancy tearoom.

Neil’s gift to Ana was a bike helmet and date to go to ride bikes and eat a picnic together.

We have decided to focus more on event or memory based gifts vs more stuff. We sure need to get rid of stuff, adding more, even for a birthday overwhelms me! The speed with which we as humans so quickly discard or take for granted such ‘prized’ treasures convinces me that we are headed in the right direction.

Do you have any similar experiences? What memory have you created instead of buying a ‘thing’?

That is such a wonderful idea for birthdays! Jerusha and I often think that experience/relational times are better than material possessions. It looks like the Tea Time was a success and we hope the bike rides are fun as well.

indeed… we had a family birthday on Friday and have another one today Sunday & last night i was reflecting how i enjoyed experimenting doing fondant icing for the first time with my two eldest children …. and how happy it made me feel to be able to work in harmony for a common goal, just the 3 of us,late at night …(= this was maybe the best present of all …)

Looks like a fun and special day that Ana will remember.

What a fun time for the girls! I didn’t know L’burg had a place like that. There’s a hotel in Chapel Hill called the Carolina Inn that does afternoon tea and I’ve thought that would be a fun spot to take Emma when she’s older. :)
